Our Plays

As noted in our class newsletter, we are looking at plays for our reading over the next few weeks. This is great for them to boost their confidence, increase their public speaking skills and really work on expression with their reading.
We will be practicing a few different plays over the coming weeks, in the anticipation of creating a "big finale" with costumes and props etc! Wohoo!!

Anyway, here is our first real attempt at our plays.......

So that is our first attempt. We are working on them and I can't wait to see what we look like in the end!

Our "World Famous" school

Movies about St Albans School

Some children from Year 4 worked together to create movies that celebrate
our school.

The first job was to take quality photos of life around St Albans to
use in the movie.

We then had to choose a way of organising these images. After a lot of
discussion it was decided to use; our values, an A-Z, the thinking hats and
the past, present and future.

We have entered the movies in an eTime competition. The movie with the
most views is the winner. So tell your friends and get watching!

Check out the movies here:
An A-Z of St Albans School by Zoe, Ngahiraka and Hilary
St Albans and the Thinking Hats by Finn, Whiti and Ava
St Albans and Our Values by Roisin, Pieta and Annabel

BOOK WEEK!!!!

This week St Albans School is celebrating Book Week.

In the office, there is a display of books from Scholastics that are available for purchase. The students all went through yesterday and made their "wish lists".

On Wednesday and Thursday, before and after school, the book fair will be open for parents/caregivers etc to go and have a look and make purchases. Please note that you can also purchase books to donate to our school library.

This week is a fantastic opportunity for you and your family to take time out and read. Please share this exciting time :-)

On Thursday there is a "Dress Up As Your Favourite Book Character" day. We are encouraging students to try and bring along the book (or a picture of their book) from which their character comes. There will be a whole school parade/show at 9.15am on Thursday morning and we are encouraging LOTS of parents to be there to support.

This week, I am also encouraging students to bring along some of their favourite books for us to share as a class.

Here is a picture of Miss Chamley's favourite book:

Our students gave a lot to their activities today and all did really well. I will get photos up very soon.

Last few days of term = BUSY!!!!

Wednesday 22nd September

Commonwealth Games Day – please wear mufti in one or more of the colours from the South African flag (blue, red, yellow, white, black and green).

There will also be a sausage sizzle fundraiser to support the Jump Jam team traveling to the nationals. Please bring money for this if you want a sausage.

Thursday 23rd September

Elianne is coming to visit and say farewell. Please bring a plate of food to share for morning tea. Also, we are doing “Collect a Can” for the families in our community severely affected by the earthquake. Please bring a can of non-perishable food to donate.

Friday 24th September

Wacky Hair Day Mufti – please bring a gold coin donation to support the Jump Jam team traveling to the nationals. Wear your hair in a wacky way and dress in normal mufti. Last day of term, school finishes at 3pm as normal.

Welcome Back!

It is great to have nearly everyone back! This week we had several practices of what to do in an earthquake, and a couple of times we have had to do it for real with some of the little aftershocks! Today, Brumby's donated gingerbread men for every child in the school to help lift the mood. The students were very happy!!! Thanks Brumby's!!

We have decided to postpone our Big Day Out until Week 2 next term. More information will be out about this at some stage.

Next week, on Wednesday, we have a Commonwealth Games Day from 10.30 til 12.30. This should be A LOT of fun with some cool events! Please feel free to come along and support our teams. Room 19 is joining up with Room 4 and will be representing South Africa. If you have some cool ideas on what we could do to "theme" ourselves, please let myself or Mrs Kelly know.

Also, Elianne will no longer be with us in Room 19. Her family has moved to Lyttleton and she is starting at a new school there shortly. She is hoping to come in for a shared morning or afternoon tea with us in the near future, so I will let you know when I hear more :-)

I hope that you are all keeping safe, it is great to see all the beautiful smiling faces of the wonderful students in Room 19 again.

Hi all,
Hope you are all safe and well! There is no school until at least MONDAY at this stage. I will keep this updated as much as possible when I hear things, but also keep an eye on our school website.

Mr McKenzie went into Room 19 the other day and has said that it was a bit of a mess but he kindly cleaned it all up for me. I have now been into school and it is all looking good.

Stay safe with all your family, we will all have some very interesting stories to share when we get back to school.

Keep smiling :-)

Term 3 so far.....

Hi!
Welcome back to Term 3. What a hectic few weeks we have had already!!

Due to me being sick, I missed the deadline for the Paint It Black competition, but the students are still really keen to do it! So, this weekend I will set this up. Please send your child with anything black (eg. face paint, clothes, etc) on Tuesday for us to have a little celebration (hopefully) and a "black out tuesday".

This term we have been learning about instructional writing. The students will soon be writing instructions about how to update our blog, so that they can go on and publish items by themselves.

Next week we start Keeping Oursleves Safe. There may be some home tasks involved with this, and your help and support with this would be greatly appreciated.

On Wednesday next week, we will be doing some cooking with Room 20. If you are able to help out then please let me know.

There will be more updates shortly. But enjoy your weekend :-)

Last Day of Term

Today is the last day of term and Miss Chamley made us do a spelling test. How boring!! After that, to make it up, she let us have free choice.

This week we have been working really hard on finishing our inquiry project work. It looks really good!!

Paint it BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a competition running as a promotion for the upcoming All Blacks vs Wallabies game, in which classrooms have to "paint" their classrooms black. I would LOVE to completely black out Room 19 and make an All Blacks Den early in Term 3. However, we have a pretty big classroom, so I am requesting anything and everything you have that is black or All Blacks related that you wouldn't mind lending us to hang or staple up in Room 19.  Any sheets, paper, extra material or anything you have would be great!!!!

The competition is being run by Christchurch City Council and there are some cool prizes up for grabs! So lets go Room 19!

Learning our new Waiata

We are still a bit out of tune, but we are working hard to improve!

Congrats Cassidy!

Well done Cassidy on your 3rd place at the Year 4 Poetry Competition!

Also, a very big WELL DONE to Ava, Elliot, Roisin and Kate who also presented their poems!

Poetry Competition

Well done to EVERYONE that presented their poem! You all did an AMAZING job and blew me out of the water with your talent! You should all be very proud of yourselves :-)

Good luck to our finalists - Elliot, Cassidy and Ava, who will be representing Room 19 at the Year 3/4 Poetry finals tomorrow at 9.30!!

All the best!

Winter needs

As we rapidly approach winter, we have some new class needs that have arisen. Room 19 now take off their shoes and leave them at the front door to avoid too much mud and dirt being dragged through the classroom. If anyone has the skills and resources to build us a shoe holder, please let me know! Also, wet lunchtimes are becoming more and more frequent at the moment. If you have any old games at home that we could use during wet lunchtimes that would be fantastic!

3way conferences

Well done everyone on completing your presentations to your parents. You should all be very proud of yourselves! If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Aqua Gym and Tryalthon

Next week Room 19 will participate in Aqua Gym. We will leave school at 12noon and return around 1.30pm. During next week, the students lunchtimes will be changed to align with Aqua Gym. On Tuesday 16th, we are also participating in the Tryathlon. The newsletter stated that we would be starting the Tryathlon in the morning. However, due to Aqua Gym, the Year 4 Tryathlon will start at 2pm instead. This will make it a BIG day for us, but I am certain that the awesome members of Room 19 will be fantastic!!!

Swimming Sports

Middle School Swimming Sports is this Wednesday, 10th March. We will leave school at 9.30am for a 10am start at Jellie Park.We plan on being back at school for about 1pm.
This is a great event and is a lot of fun for all the students. We would love to see as many of you there as possible!!
